Ever wonder how many Huggers it takes to change a light bulb? No? Well, ever wonder the real cost difference between incandescent, CFL, and LED light bulbs? Here's a wiki article that looks at the cost of ownership of these different light bulbs that takes into account the initial cost of the bulb, its energy consumption, its light output, its lifetime length, and the cost of electricity.
Lifetime Costs of Light Bulbs
Lifetime Costs of Light Bulbs
ok, i'm all about saving
ok, i'm all about saving money on electricity and not using resources one doesn't have to use, but there are a few other things to consider:
1. most of the CFL and 'extra life' bulbs don't actually last the lifetime they claim they do on the box
2. light quality. poor quality light in your home may have health effects such as diminishing eyesight
speak for yourself
1. I've had CFLs (primarily) in my fixtures for over two years and I've yet to replace one...I never went that long using standard light bulbs without making quite a few replacements.
2. Have you tried a CFL bulb in the last 2-3 years? The light quality/brightness has improved dramatically and it's a shame if people still believe otherwise. It's like believing that computers are slow because you're using a Commodore.
Go LEDs GO!!!
I think that's awesome that LEDs become the right financial choice at $75 PER BULB. Gulp. Tough decision to make as a consumer, but it's nice to see it backed up mathematically.
hi
nice calculation and theory
