Think about the last time you hit up the drive-thru. How many napkins were you given? My guess is that you received none or you received a dozen. You likely used one, maybe two. The other ten got tossed. Along with the straw, straw wrapper, sandwich wrapper, receipt, salt packets, paper soft-drink cup, bag, and ketchup packets (both used and excess). That's one transaction. One meal. One person. Extrapolate that.
Fast-food was attacked with the knowledge of trans fats and rebounded quickly with a seemingly effortless removal of trans fats from their value meals and dollar menu items. Hopefully this news will produce more environmentally concious fast-food chains, but it will likely create further greenwashing.
The content of this article should come to no surprise. Hopefully with some helpful nudging and a public spotlight, the fast-food industry will take action to halt this excess. Excess that certainly loses the fast food industry money with every transaction.
