Regulations regarding pits and quarries are grossly inadequate in Nova Scotia. Several highly controversial projects are being considered by the current government. In one such proposal, the site
is next door to the home of the provincial Liberal Party leader, yet both he and the governing Conservative party appear to be backing the proposal against the opposition of most area residents. The proposal has not yet been approved but is well under way, and the proponent has recently been cited by both Federal and Provincial agencies for the project's silt pollution of a stream.

Nova Scotia quarry
On September 10th, 2007 seagull says:
Wow, I just Googled "Stephen McNeil quarry" (he's the Liberal party leader in Nova Scotia) and the story is a real shocker! What is the man thinking?
Another Quarry Nightmare!
That’s interesting, the Liberal Leader of Nova Scotia lives next door to the proposed Quarry location!
He must realize that in this day & age with all the Environmental land, water & air issues the world at large needs to deal with, what’s happening in his neighborhood is beyond understanding. If we destroy everything we still have today what kind of life will future generations have, what will we be leaving to our children & grandchildren?
