Among the major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S., the built environment (homes, buildings, roads) accounts for the majority with 51% of total -- 39% for the operation of the buildings (heating, cooling, lighting) and 12% to produce the building materials (cement, glass, drywall and steel).
Recognizing the need to lessen the impact of the built environment on the climate, Serious Materials is re-engineering building materials to be ultra-sustainable, cost-effective and energy-efficient throughout their lifecycle.
To accomplish this important task of reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment, Serious Materials has attracted a diverse group of leaders of building materials and construction, business, and government for its Board of Advisors.
