IN ONLY five weeks, around 30 small businesses across Macarthur have committed to changing their business practices and working towards sustainability. And more and more businesses are working with the Symmetry Sustainable Business program to focus on their ‘‘triple bottom line’’. But rather than the regular ‘‘people, planet, profit’’, they have come up with their own version: environment, community and prosperity.

National Tree Day 2008 is one of the most significant annual environmental events in Australia occurring this year on Sunday 27th July. An amazing 1.5 million volunteers, have put in a huge amount of effort over th years contributing to planting over 11.5 million Australian native tree's an shrubs.

There are so many stories we can tell ourselves to justify doing nothing, but perhaps the most insidious is that, whatever we do manage to do, it will be too little too late. Climate change is upon us, and it has arrived well ahead of schedule. Scientists’ projections that seemed dire a decade ago turn out to have been unduly optimistic: the warming and the melting is occurring much faster than the models predicted.

Well, this year has produced some amazing results! I thought last year was impressive, but this year the number of searches smashed 2007, with almost 8 times more searches in 2008.

Development initiatives are under way with the goal of using renewable resources and fewer raw materials.
