We like to pay homage to Earth Day as much as we can (stretching it on to the next day and beyond) and so we give the stage to the inventor of the Segway, Dean Kamen. He has come up with a device that will turn any liquid into drinkable water and despite its huge non-prettiness and using cow dung as fuel, I think we all can appreciate that people will be able to drink who couldn't before .

What's the difference between "managing" waste water and "recycling" it? Turns out, a lot of clean, potable water.

Researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems have developed a small maintenance-free water desalination plants that run on solar power. The plants will produce almost forty gallons of clean water each day - enough water for fifteen people living in the arid parts of Africa and Asia where there are no utility grids.

At the beginning of the summer, the Environmental Protection Agency predicted that 2007 would be an “average” year for water quality conditions in the Chesapeake Bay. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) spent the summer collecting reports from citizens, government officials and agencies, partner groups, and our own employees’ first-hand experience to determine just what an “average” year looks like.
