Green dorms are being built at the University of Illinois in Champaign that use geothermal energy to provide heat and hot water to residence.

This student utilized vertical space to grow cucumbers, tomatoes, and other veggies in his dorm room. Just goes to show that no matter how much space you have, you can provide some of your own food at the local level.
