Regulations regarding pits and quarries are grossly inadequate in Nova Scotia. Several highly controversial projects are being considered by the current government. In one such proposal, the site
is next door to the home of the provincial Liberal Party leader, yet both he and the governing Conservative party appear to be backing the proposal against the opposition of most area residents. The proposal has not yet been approved but is well under way, and the proponent has recently been cited by both Federal and Provincial agencies for the project's silt pollution of a stream.
