So I guess you couldn’t really call this news, because the company is so old, but when was the last time you went to the Simple Shoes’ website, if ever? So give me a bit of a break there. I’ve always known that Simple Shoes was progressively becoming an eco-company, but until today, I really had no idea.

Did you know that on average only 1 plastic bag in every 200 is recycled? Did you know that over 17 billion plastic bags are estimated to be used in the UK in a single year? Now is the time to say no to plastic and yes to fair trade jute and cotton.

There is a new trend in the quick-growing “fast fashion” industry, selling cheap garments that can be used and discarded without a second thought. Consumers, especially teenagers, love the concept, pioneered also by stores like H&M internationally and by Old Navy and Target in the United States, since it allows them to shift styles with speed on a low budget.

No matter how much I “green” my lifestyle, I can’t get away from the fact that I adore fashion. In all my 23 years, I’m still not able to explain just what it is about clothing that draws me to it, but the passion is undeniably there. With all of the eco-fashion options abound these days, it is clear that I am not the only person clamoring for sustainable style and that’s a damn good thing.

Clearly, what the the last North American needs is another piece of clothing, but if you are one of those people that has to have new clothes, then make the next purchase an organic or ethical one.
