Sam Whittingham, of Quadra Island, BC, has fulfilled a more than decade long quest to break the .decimach (one tenth the speed of sound) barrier. He went a record breaking 82.33 mph at the World Human Power Speed Challenge, last week at Battle Mountain, NV. He rode a streamlined bicycle over a five mile runup, before being timed over a distance of 200 m.
